The Governing Board of the Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking (CAJU) has approved the accession of 20 new Associated Members one of whom is SOLiTHOR.  The Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking is the European Union’s leading research and innovation programme for transforming aviation towards a sustainable and climate-neutral future.  The new members will engage with the Clean Aviation programme on a long-term basis and together with the European Commission and the current CAJU private members, will pave the way towards climate-neutral aviation.

SOLiTHOR’s technology offers compelling value propositions, performance, energy density/weight, safety, and manufacturability for its target markets.

SOLiTHOR’s initial focus is on Aviation providing a unique rechargeable solid-state lithium battery cell technology which is a step-change advancement compared with Li-ion and other solid-state battery technology.  Current lithium-ion cell technology is not adequate for powering aircraft over long distances.  It is volatile, is a fire risk from flammable electrolyte as well as being heavy. This means that powering for take-off and landing is even more intensive which dramatically reduces flight times.  SOLiTHOR’s rechargeable solid-state lithium batteries is a major advancement in battery technology and will solve the limitations of Li-ion.

It is highly likely that SOLiTHOR’s pouch cells will be deployed into regional aircraft within the next 3 to 5 years.

The engagement within the programme of these new Associated Members who all have important competencies in the field of sustainable aviation research and innovation will offer vital technical contributions to drive the delivery of ground-breaking aircraft technologies in the near future.
